Software Delivery Made Easy

Most businesses and government agencies have a need for software delivery – to keep user files up to date – to quickly and easily update and synchronize files to both internal and external users

FTP makes moving large volumes of software and data files between any two entities possible. However, FTP (and other communication protocols such as HTTP and SMTP) do not, provide a way to secure or manage the payload or the transmission.

Although many organizations still use FTP for software and data file transfers, the trend is toward more secure methods. Legislation such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) specify requirements for information security. A component of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Safeguards Rule, requires all financial institutions to design, implement and maintain plans for the protection of private information.

The Media Motion Online Managed File Transfer (MFT) system is a file transfer, synchronization, and management solution designed to help you manage large-scale software and data file transfers securely, reliably, and at data transfer rates not attainable through standard transfer protocols like Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

There are a number of questions that you may have about Managed File Transfer. Below are a sample of the questions that you may be asking and our answers to those questions.

What are some examples of situations where I would use Managed File Transfer?

  • Deliver demo software to your prospects for evaluation
  • Deliver marketing and promotion materials
  • Upgrade existing software
  • Require and record EULA acceptance
  • Check for prerequisites and disk space
  • Download only the necessary files
  • Create/Delete directories, files, and registry keys
  • Create shortcuts and desktop icons
  • Much more…

The Media Motion Online Managed File Transfer can be deployed for a wide range of use cases. With it, you can provide instant access to your software for any audience – inside or outside of your group.

Ultimately, you want and need a stable, full-featured enterprise download manager solution that works on multiple platforms and can deliver any digital content anywhere in the world.

How will your Managed File Transfer help us control “version fragmentation” of our mission critical software?

Providing new software content and bug fixes for your end users is critical. That’s why we provide a solution called “Synchronized Build Deployment“ that allows you to quickly and easily deploy your new software builds to support your scheduled software updates, patches and urgent hot fixes on demand.

With Synchronized Build Deployment, based on the continuous delivery model, you can deploy new software builds to both new and existing end users fast. Synchronized Build Deployment overcomes delays caused by version fragmentation by automatically creating all version paths simultaneously, saving you valuable time.

Does your Managed File Transfer work on multiple platforms and browsers?

Yes. Our Managed File Transfer includes native clients designed to work on Windows (including XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10) and on Macs (including 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, and 10.10), desktops and mobile devices.

We also work on all major browsers and browser versions including Internet Explorer, Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Android, Safari.

Does your Managed File Transfer provide secure transfer?

We ensure your files are secure both in transit and at rest by the use of AES level encryption and HTTPS.

We also protect your content with token authentication, secure download manager login, and delivery via HTTPS.

secure managed file transfer

When you use MFT to eliminate the risk of file exchange alternatives (FTP, public cloud-share sites, USBs and couriers), you now have a secure and encrypted solution to safely exchange files – keeping proprietary, confidential and protected content safe. By providing a platform of governance and compliance for file exchange, MFT enables enforcement of corporate policies regarding secure file exchange throughout the entire organization.

Large files present a special issue for secure file transfer. Large files usually can’t be sent via email, so employees turn to non-secure, risky alternatives such as FTP, public cloud-share sites, USBs and couriers, putting enterprise content at risk.

MFT applications offer business automation, along with reporting and non-repudiation. An MFT solution should simplify management and ensure regulatory compliance while supporting all current security standards and methodology, including SSL encryption, X.509 encryption and proxy certificates.

Is it easy to use?

Yes. But end user satisfaction is driven by more than just the speed of file transfer. They expect an automated process that is user-friendly, intuitive and non-intrusive. They simply want to be able to click and go. When end users encounter a poor user experience, the abandonment rate dramatically increases. That negatively impacts revenue. This is why the end user experience is vital to success.

The download manager is the end user facing interface of the Managed File Transfer. Keeping this user interface (UI) simple and intuitive creates the positive user experience needed to increase your completion rates.

Our Managed File Transfer is a stand-alone Executable Download Manager – meaning that we provide a single-use application with nothing to install/uninstall.

Our User-Friendly UI allows your customers the power to control their experience and access content on their timeline with pause/resume functionality and download status indicators.

Our built-in File Integrity Assurance is an automatic granular inspection ensures your customer receives each and every file uncorrupted.

Is it “English Only” or can it work in multiple languages?

We have Multi-Language Support with automatic language detection. So our MFT will let you automatically speak your customers’ language.

Our supported Languages currently include: English (US & UK), Czech, Danish, German, Finnish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Turkish, and Chinese (Traditional & Taiwan).

Will your Managed File Transfer work with our Firewall and/or Proxy Server?

Absolutely. We already work with virtually all firewall applications. If there are any new firewall issues that we discover during the process of setup and testing, we simply work with the firewall company to find a way to deliver the files.

We have full Proxy Support including Basic, NTLM, Digest, and Authenticate.

We also regularly test against most of the popular anti-virus applications.

Can we easily integrate your Managed File Transfer with our existing applications and website?

Certainly. We have a complete set of RESTful APIs that allow you to integrate and automate with existing applications.

Can we also integrate with an eCommerce solution?

Yes. We have built in Ecommerce Support so that you can easily integrate with your current eCommerce service provider.

Can you provide the scale to handle spikes in demand?

Yes. The digital delivery of software through our Managed File Transfer is backed by the leading Content Delivery Networks (CDN) in the world. This allows us to easily handle spikes in demand when and where they happen so that you can quickly and reliably fulfill your customer requirements.

Your downloads will also be fast because our use of a global CDN positions your files closer to the end user in close proximity to the last mile ISP network. Your customers will receive the files they need regardless of size or location.

We also can support Multiple Simultaneous HTTP Connections to increase transfer speeds and provide your customers the fastest file transfer available.

Do the end users have to download and install special software to be able to use the Managed File Transfer?

No. The Media Motion Managed File Transfer is a Stand-alone Executable Download Manager. We provide a single-use application with nothing that your end users have to install or uninstall.

Basically, the download manager is a small footprint application (under 2mb) that is system resource friendly. When the end user clicks on the download manager, the application is automatically downloaded and installed on their computer. When the new files have successfully been downloaded and/or installed, the download manager application automatically deletes itself and is fully removed from the computer.

What happens if the end user’s connection to the Internet is lost in the middle of the download?

The Media Motion Online Managed File Transfer has Automatic Error Recovery. If the download is interrupted for any reason, when the download starts again, it will pick up from where it left off. So no time is wasted. (TCP, HTTP, DNS, etc)

Automatic Error Recovery allows you to overcome the vagaries of the internet without user intervention.

Can it handle big files?

Absolutely. With multiple technologies at work, MFT allows users to transfer files of any size without limitation and dramatically increase the speed of large file exchange. Our exclusive acceleration protocol provides ultra-fast transfer performance across all types of networks, eliminating network latency and utilizing 99% of available network bandwidth.

Media Motion Online Managed File Transfer handles all file sizes up to very large file sizes (over 100 GB), provides detailed tracking of files transfers in real time, and can scale to meet the file transfer needs of nearly any type of enterprise.

Large files can’t be sent via email, so many times, employees turn to non-secure, risky alternatives such as FTP, public cloud-share sites, USBs and couriers, putting enterprise content at risk. We have a feature we call “Dynamic Fulfillment Services”. With Dynamic Fulfillment Services, you can allow your customers to select, queue, schedule, manage and update the files from within a library on demand.

Your downloads will also be fast because our use of a global CDN positions your files closer to the end user in close proximity to the last mile ISP network. Your customers will receive the files they need regardless of the size of the file or their location.

We also can support Multiple Simultaneous HTTP Connections to increase transfer speeds and provide your customers the fastest file transfer available.

As an alternative, there may be situations where you don’t need to send an entire file. The Media Motion Managed File Transfer has a feature we call “Delta File Differencing:. Delta File Differencing allows you to optimize file transfer by only sending the relevant bytes that have changed instead of the entire file.

Does our IT department have to get involved in every transfer?

No. We have a feature we call “Dynamic Fulfillment Services”. With Dynamic Fulfillment Services, you can allow your customers to select, queue, schedule, manage and update the files from within a library on demand.

We work with you to create a user experience around your unique business use case and customer needs.

Is there reporting - a way to verify that the files actually were transferred?

Yes. We have 4 different types of reporting to provide complete end-to-end visibility:

Funnel Analytics: Understanding how the user experience is contributing to the success or failure of your customer conversion funnel is critical. Our customers have found that having more insight into download starts, completions, download speed and other data points assists in monitoring the customer experience. This data can be used to drive additional revenue and higher customer satisfaction. Can you afford to go without it?

Geo Reporting: Know where your customers are located and what the performance experience is in their region or location. Geographic reporting that includes detailed user insight is being requested by sales and marketing in many global companies with downloadable content.

Error Reporting: The MFT solution has auto-error-recovery that minimizes the impact of delivery or network errors. However, they do occur and knowing this we provide real-time reporting for use in troubleshooting.

Real-Time Analytics: All information has an expiration date. That is why we provide real-time analytics for our customers so they are able to make critical business decisions on the fly.

How does the MFT help increase productivity?

Most file exchange alternatives are very slow. How much time is wasted waiting for files transfer? Hours. How much time is wasted shipping the content via courier? Days.

Don’t waste time waiting for files to transfer–get more done with accelerated and faster transfer speeds that won’t crash and lose the transfer progress.

Our MFT also features an Automatic Error Recovery. This feature increases productivity because if the download is interrupted for any reason, when the download starts again, it will pick up from where it left off. So no time is wasted.
